We have received physical samples of Appvion’ s new Blue Pigment Direct Thermal. To our surprise, the samples received from a January 25, 2018 production run did not result in a bluish tint to the paper and the imaging of the sheet looks almost the same, when placed side by side with the black dye paper. Under magnification we can identify a very slight hint of the blue pigment, likely not noticeable to the human eye. Bottom line is that this new formulation of paper DOES NOT show a physical whiteness difference, when placed side by side with the original Alpha 400 sheet sample. This is not what was illustrated by Appvion in their initial announcement.
