Paper Shortage Update | Price Increase Effective Jan 1st

Last Friday, Appvion announced another price increase on thermal paper. This will only affect the Alpha 400 2.1 and 2.3 grades. The increase is almost 9% on shipments as of January 1, 2018.

This means that 2.1 and 2.3 mil thick Appvion papers have increased in cost by 29% since July 1, 2017.  24% of this seems to be related to the global Dye shortage.

The long-term outlook still remains cautious. Mills have placed converters on Allocations and will continue to do this, until the Dye Shortage is rectified. Currently, there is no new news of a correction in the supply of Leuco Dye, so the next 6 months appears to be more of the same for all mills, converters, and customers. We will continue to update as new information is made available.
